Quality and Environmental Policy

AKLA works to promote safety and security by developing, manufacturing, and marketing products in First Aid, Healthcare, and Hygiene.

At AKLA, we strive to achieve satisfied customers, profitable operations, and efficient resource utilization while taking responsibility through pollution prevention and compliance with laws and regulations.

Our products, services, organization, and operational systems shall continuously be developed and improved to achieve these goals.

Sustainable Development for Us

At AKLA, we, the owners and employees, want to feel that we contribute and make a difference.

Sustainability is important to us at AKLA and has always been a priority. Therefore, it was natural for us to start early with implementing an environmental management system according to ISO 14001, and we achieved certification in the year 2000.

ISO 14001 has helped us focus on the right aspects in planning, implementation, monitoring, and improvement of our operations.

We at AKLA are incredibly proud of the sustainability work we have done so far, but this is an ongoing journey where we continuously strive to develop and improve our value chain to reduce negative environmental, social, and economic impacts while promoting positive long-term development and sustainability. All to contribute to global goals and Sweden's environmental objectives.

Our objective is to work according to ISO 26000 and set climate targets for our emissions, aligning with Science Based Targets for validation.

Concis – Sustainable Value Chain

Manufacturing – We strive to produce as sustainable products as possible. In addition to durability, they must meet stringent environmental and other sustainability requirements.

Employees – We tirelessly ensure a safe, inspiring, and caring work environment, making AKLA an attractive workplace.

Suppliers – We actively seek new materials and suppliers where sustainability plays a crucial role. We continuously improve our supply chain and collaborate with local suppliers.

Customers – We actively encourage and simplify recycling of our products for end-users when they are no longer needed.

Circularity – We embrace the closed-loop system

Circularity is a key focus for us, not least from a business perspective. It involves preparing for a business model where our products are part of a closed-loop system, using recycled or renewable materials for all components.

Business Model and Strategy

AKLA operates in a complex environment influenced by factors such as macroeconomic and geopolitical conditions, regulations, and technological advancements.

Our business model and strategy must therefore evolve continuously to create ongoing value for our customers and other stakeholders, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

Sustainability is at the core of our strategy, as we firmly believe it is the only way forward. It also provides us with:

  • Economic Advantage – By managing our sustainability efforts effectively, we can reduce costs while minimizing risks.
  • Competitive Advantage – Being transparent about our sustainability practices can give us a competitive edge, making our company the preferred choice for customers.
  • Stronger Brand – Through active sustainability initiatives, we strengthen our brand, adding value for both customers and suppliers. Our company simply becomes "better at sustainability" compared to our competitors.

We aim to drive the development of climate-smart solutions in collaboration with our customers, suppliers, and other businesses within various networks.

Environmental Aspects - Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Greenhouse gas emissions are a critical aspect of environmental considerations, particularly in relation to climate change. Understanding and managing these emissions is crucial to improve the company's sustainability performance.

Goals 2024 Connecting environmental assessment and goals to greenhouse gas emissions:

  • Quantify emissions (CO2e) from identified environmental aspects.
  • Analyze data to understand which activities contribute most to emissions and how they can be reduced.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, and improved processes.

SBTi

Currently, we do not report our goals to SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative), but our objective is to have our goals accepted and published.

Scope 1: Direct emissions from assets owned or operated by AKLA, such as machinery and vehicles.

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased energy used in AKLA's operations.

Scope 3: Indirect emissions, such as emissions generated by customers using AKLA's products (e.g., first aid products) or emissions from AKLA's supply chain.

Note:
SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) is an independent global organization established by organizations such as CDP, United Nations Global Compact, and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Waste Management

We utilize Stena Recycling for all our waste management needs. Through their customer portal, we can track our carbon footprint and set relevant emission reduction goals.

We strive to label our packaging with sorting instructions so that end consumers know how to properly recycle our products.

Packaging

Transportation

We partner with DHL for our transportation needs. They provide us with reports that enable us to easily monitor our carbon footprint and set effective emission reduction targets.
